This section of the North Country National Scenic Trail is more wooded and hilly in the NE section, and things can get wet after a good soak south of Hwy 27. Overall, this is a fun and scenic section of trail.
Beat the sand factor by either powering through the stuff, or by going after a good rain, or when it's cooler out and the ground is a bit firmer.
Watch out for people on horse-back closer to the Oak Leaf Loop Trail, and be sure to leave the cattle gates as you find them.
Beautiful rolling hills with prairie grasses. First couple miles were sandy from horses pulverizing the soil, but it got better two miles in.
