Description

From the Bort Meadow Staging area, the trail is a wide fire road that climbs up a ridge in the northwest direction. The climb is gradual on packed clay, washboard in sections, exposed sandstone and some loose sand which can be ridden even after moderate rain. The trail peaks in a little over a mile with some views across Grass Valley. Oak trees provide shade most of the way.

Past the junction with the Parkridge Drive Trail Access, the trail levels briefly then starts a steep descent, 500 ft. in less than a mile, towards the MacDonald Trail on Redwood Road. It drops in a stair-step fashion with some grades greater than 20%. Keep this in mind as there aren't any loop options and the only way to return to the trailhead is to climb back up.

The trail is part of the Skyline/Bay Area Ridge National Trail which continues to the north on the West Ridge Trail in Redwood Regional Park.
