Description

This trail can be accessed on the west end from Old Ballard Road or from the east end from Crystal Mountain Road. Both are Forest Service roads that will require 4WD, if you intend to drive to this trail, or a lot of muscle if you intend to ride to this trail. You can also access the trail near its midpoint by following the Donner Pass Trail #926 - Buckhorn Segment or Donner Pass Trail #926 - Glen Haven Segment.

On the west end, the trail intersects with the Signal Mountain Trail which is on Wilderness land. As such, you'll reach a point on that end where bikes are no longer permitted.

The trail is at high altitude and in some places, in particular the eastern half, has steep grades and loose surfaces. This combines for a difficult and technical challenge.

It winds its way through beautiful forests and is almost entirely under the canopy of the pines above, but occasionally you'll break out and be treated to splendid views. To that point, not to be missed along this trail is the Lookout Mountain Summit Trail #934.1A. Follow it to spectacular views in all directions!

Motorcycles are permitted on this trail so keep an eye out.
