Description

The Comers Rock Section of the Iron Mountain Trail is a real jewel of a trail. The trail runs from the Comers Rock Campground south to Hale Lake.

The trail cuts through dense rhododendron tunnels and hardwood forest. Take care to note the craftsman trail building work done by the Civilian Conservation Corps; rock crib walls and intricate, sustainable tread surface made with the abundant local rocks.

It is highly recommended to pick up a copy of National Geographic's Trails Illustrated Topographic Map of Mount Rogers Nation Recreation Area. This map will help you find trail connections and prevent getting lost. Avenza Maps has a smartphone app that enables pinpoint location tracking on a digital version of the map; download it! Or use the MTB Project mobile app!
