The Forbes Trail provides a good loop option with Sheep Mountain Trail and the Fox Creek Road. It sees frequent equestrian use mostly in fall for hunting season, so the trail can get very dry, rutted, and loose. It is best to ride this trail in spring/early summer before the horse flies and flying bullets.

Forbes Trail can be ridden either direction. The following describes access to the trail from the top then descending to Forbes Trailhead.

The Sheep Mountain Trail hits an ATV road about 3.5 miles up the climb from the south. Go left on this ATV road and follow the ridge for ~1/2 mile. The road curves left; look for singletrack leaving it to the right on the spine of a ridge bearing southwest. If you find yourself on a steeply descending ATV road, double back. Once on singletrack, the trail crosses sage and brief patches of trees as it descends from the upper reaches of Sheep Mountain. The upper parts of the trail have some chunkier rock while lower areas cross through more gravelly surface seen so often in Laramie area trails.

There are a couple of fence gates along this trail; please leave them as you found them.
