Description
Starting at the trailhead parking lot, the White Trail is a new section of singletrack that parallels the nearby paved Wildlife Observation Trail and leads along the Illinois Bayou section of Lake Dardanelle.
The trail starts fast with a series of quick descents and water crossings followed by short, steep climbs. With sections that are alternately rocky and root-laden (or both), even seasoned riders will find themselves challenged and entertained by hand-built rock obstacles, wooden bridges, and exposed climbs along the lake.
After powering through the new singletrack leading from the trailhead, riders will leave the paved Wildlife Observation Trail behind and start working their way toward the main trail system. More rolling terrain with lakeside views abound until riders exit onto a long rocky stretch of trail that parallels nearby Interstate 40. This section has two mildly technical sections that include a water crossing and a hand-built rock ramp that threads users through "the Blue Gate" (you'll know it when you see it!)
The White Trail ends after a pair of wooden bridges and a short, steep climb up a series of switchbacks that can leave beginners a little winded and ready for a break before taking on the rest of the trail.
