Description

Madrone Trail #4 is predominantly a doubletrack used to access the Cougar Canyon Overlook Trail #4a and Vista Ridge Trail #4b loops. As such, it may offer a respite of easier riding compared to the difficult riding you'll find on these two loops. The northernmost section of Madrone Trail #4 is becoming singletrack.

Across from the western intersection with the Vista Ridge Trail #4b trail, there is what may have been a stone quarry. At the eastern intersection with Vista Ridge Trail #4b there is an old deserted ranch house and some live oaks which will offer a nice place for a break in the shade.

You'll find some shaded areas along this trail if the sun isn't directly overhead, and this might be welcome if you're coming off some of the connecting trails that don't offer much shade.

Hill Country State Natural Area was a former ranch, but I think it was a cactus farm.
