Overview

A big outer loop at North Park starting and ending at Pie Traynor Field Parking Lot doing a big circle of the park on mostly all singletrack.

Denny's Trail (White Blaze), Rocky Dell Trail, Koto Buki Trail, Golf Course Trail, V8 Trail, Bathtub Trail, Rainbow and Pfundstein Red-Blue Trail and a punchy climb up a fire road back to the start.

The route is basically broken down into four segments.

Step 1: Denny's Trail (White Blaze) + Rocky Dell Trail + Koto Buki Trail
Step 2: Golf Course Trail + V8 Trail + Bathtub Trail
Step 3: Rainbow and Pfundstein Red-Blue Trail
Step 4: Rachel Carson Trail (North Park Segment) back to Pie Traynor Parking Lot

Description

Step 1: Denny's Trail (White Blaze) + Rocky Dell Trail + Koto Buki Trail

Starting at Pie Traynor Field Parking Lot, ride west behind the ballfield parallel to the treeline toward Babcock Blvd. Enter the woods after the cul-de-sac and bear left onto Denny's Trail (White Blaze). Follow White Blaze trail till it becomes a fire road near the sand mound, avoid the sand mound area and climb the fire road uphill and continue to the Rocky Dell Trail, which runs parallel to S. Ridge Drive. Continue onto the Koto Buki Connector Trail, but exit onto S. Ridge Drive at the Long View Pavilion before the trail begins its steep descent.

Take S. Ridge Drive and cross Babcock Blvd and climb up W. Ridge Road. Look for a trailhead on your left about 50 yards or more after you pass old Babcock Blvd. Enter Koto Buki Trail (Purple Blaze) to your left and follow it down to W. Ridge Dr. This is a nice, flowy trail, but watch for tight turns and obstacles as you get a lot of speed. Cross W. Ridge Drive and you'll see the Koto Buki Trail (Purple Blaze) trail continues up into the treeline. Follow it to the intersection of Ingomar Rd and Kummer Rd.

Step 2: Golf Course Trail + V8 Trail + Bathtub Trail

Cross Ingomar Rd and bear left to Climb Kummer Rd. Turn left onto the Orange Blaze - Green Dot - Connector right after the treeline starts. (You can skip this trail if you prefer and just climb Kummer Rd to Hilltop Dr intersection). Follow this trail till it dumps you onto Hilltop Dr, continue straight back to Kummer Rd. Cross Kummer Road right onto the Golf Course Trail (Orange Blaze) right after the guardrail ends. Continue on the orange blazed trail until you reach the Unblazed Connector to Orange Blaze Trail before St. Paul's Church.

Take the Unblazed Connector to Orange Blaze Trail down to the parking lot, make a left on Walter Rd and a right into the parking lot across from the church. Continue to the back of the parking lot and follow the path to the V8 Trail (Green Blaze) just past the playground. Follow the V8 Trail till you exit to Walter Rd just above St. Paul's Church. Look for the Orange Blaze - Purple Dot trail just across the road.

Follow the switchbacks to the right and bear right onto the Golf Course Trail (Orange Blaze), which will take you toward the pigeon shelter. Look for the entrance to the Bathtub Trail to the left of the pigeon shelter. Once you're on the trail, don't make the first right on the white-blazed trail (that's better for horses). Make a right at the second trail fork to go down some switchbacks. Continue on until you reach a cleared, but steep fire road. If you keep going straight, you'll wind up in the nature preserve (you don't want that). Descend the fire road and bear left to get on Kummer Rd towards the ice rink.

Step 3: Rainbow and Pfundstein Red-Blue Trail
Cut through the ice rink driveway and cross Pierce Mill Rd and look for Rainbow and Pfundstein Red-Blue Trail starting on the right just up North Ridge Drive above the Olympia Shelter. You'll follow the Rainbow and Pfundstein Red-Blue Trail for about 5.8 miles, it's a long climb at first but then becomes some great, winding singletrack trails. You'll be on this for a while, just keep following the Red Blaze with Blue Dot till you reach the Red Blaze - Black Dot trail. Make a right onto Red Blaze - Black Dot and descend to Pierce Mill Rd.

Step 4: Rachel Carson Trail (North Park Segment) back to Pie Traynor Parking Lot

Cross the bridge toward Babcock Blvd and cross Babcock Blvd and look for the trail entrance to the Rachel Carson Trail (North Park Segment) (Yellow Blaze) right before the bridge over the spillway. Follow this to old Babcock Blvd, you'll go next to the 7-11 and then cross Ingomar Rd. Continue up until you see a trail just before the Willow Shelter, which is a steep gravel climb back up to meet the Rachel Carson Trail (North Park Segment). Continue climbing up to S. Ridge Drive. Cross S. Ridge Drive to Pie Traynor Parking Lot.

Koto Buki, Pfunstein-Rainbow, and Golf Course were the most flowy, with V8 being great too but a little less quality. Fun full morning of MTB! 19.5mi — 2h 33m
