This is a Maryland State Park that is accompanied by a hotel casino and the parking by the hotel is always pretty packed. There are plenty of areas of free parking where you can pick up the trail. Helmets are required for anyone under the age of 16 per Maryland State Law.

Overview

A fun trail if you're passing through. This loop comes in at about 5.5 miles with some fun, intermediate, technical sections.

Description

This is definitely not a destination trail but a good place to stop and ride as it's right off Interstate 68.

The ride starts out from a large parking area in the southeast corner of the lake. From there, just follow the orange blazing; the trail follows the lake with only a few exceptions where the trail takes short jaunts to the side but immediately returns.

The north side of the lake is where most of the rocky, technical sections are, but as I mentioned, even those portions are intermediate level at best. The climbs are few but still a bit of a challenge with rocks and steep angles. There is also an "upper" trail that I didn't ride as this time of year (spring as well as winter) those trails tend to be really wet...meaning flowing water over a large portion of it. The climb to it is tough, brutal and rocky.

The trail itself has some short climbs and descents but has a number of serious and seriously-fun rock gardens. The summer and fall are the best riding times here so if you ride it, post it up here to share it with others.

The front side of the lake is basic and novice. The backside is a little more technical with rock gardens, roots/ruts and a slight incline. 5.3mi
