Description
Pinhoti 6 mostly follows old forest roads. The first 1.7 miles follows a dirt road that is open to off road vehicle traffic. At this point, you'll reach a gated road (formerly FS3A) which forks off to the left following the Pinhoti Trail sign (black bird footprint on a white diamond).
This section of the trail is a grassy doubletrack. It doesn't get much traffic and may be overgrown in late summer. The grassy doubletrack descends to a creek crossing at the 3.4-mile mark. After that, you'll climb about one mile and then descend a further mile down to another creek crossing at 6.2 miles.
Starting around the five mile mark, the trail narrows to a more defined singletrack in the middle of the former forest road. This section features some jumps similar to the ones on
Pinhoti 2 on the way down to the creek crossing at 6.2 miles.
Roughly the last two miles are the most enjoyable section of Pinhoti 6 featuring relatively new (2014), flowy singletrack. The final 0.5 mile descent includes a number of tight switchbacks.
You can make this into a good loop ride with Dennis Mill Road - Old Federal Road -
Peeples Lake Road (FS 3) - Pinhoti 6 (FS 3A) starting from the large trailhead at Dennis Mill Road.
