Overview

This is the most challenging singletrack in the Northern Indiana / Southwest Michigan area. Big hills, big obstacles, and deep ravines. Which makes it a perfect track for advanced riders and an excellent place for intermediate riders to expand their skills and build their endurance.

The entire course is approximately 10.0 miles and encompasses a combination of several different loops that make up the entire trail network.

Description

From the parking area off Campbell Road, head left into the Pink Trail. A short twisting descent will take you to the Green Trail. This loop isn't the most clearly laid out, but think of it as more of a connector to the other trails. In fact you may want to keep the MTB Project mobile app handy the first time you ride this.

Head left on the Green Trail, at the bottom of a series of close switchbacks continue across the unmarked Green Trail to follow the edge of a depression. Where it turns back you'll travel along the edge of the tress to the start of the Orange Trail.

At the next intersection, split off to ride the first half of the Blue Trail. This is the fastest and most exiting trail at Andrews, so enjoy the deep bowls and curves as you work towards the Red Trail. Keep going past the eastern end to head into the western end for a clockwise loop.

The Red Trail is the most remote in the network and it gets things started with a sharp climb into a field. At the far end it doubles back to follow a treed ridgeline along Highway 31. There are some technical twists and turns topside, until the trail ultimately loops back around through fast turns to head back downhill to get you into the valley. The Red Trail ends with a long and fast straightaway that will eventually slow and loop back around to return to the Blue Trail. This is a good loop for a little "recovery" after heading out to this end of the network.

Back on the Blue Trail get ready for some more fun challenges. You'll get a little more descending than it's mostly a twisting climb back to the Orange Trail. Turn right for a short and rooted descent. Once in the bottom of the valley, you'll have a series of short downhills and quick turns, but overall this section mainly has long sustained climbs.

At one point, you'll emerge from the woods and find a fast descent over a man-made wooden plank bridge that immediately climbs up the other side after a sharp turn. This section will likely find beginner and immediate riders walking their bikes several times wondering how the advanced riders make it up and over the obstacles. In my opinion, this section is the most grueling and difficult part of the network.

You'll soon find yourself back on the Green Trail. Keep right to work past the switchbacks from earlier. The trail will continue to loop past the Observatory on the way back to the Pink Trail. Wrap up your ride by working through the rest of the rolling terrain of the Pink Trail on the return to the parking area.
