Description

Mokuleia Firebreak Road is accessed from the Mokuleia Access Road off of Farrington Highway on the North Shore. The access road is not all that pleasant: after traveling inland for one mile, the climb begins. Then you've got about 2.5 miles to climb 1,500 feet and there isn't any shade to speak of. The first mile is "easy" and then you've got a 13% grade climb for the next mile-an-a-half or so.

Finally, you'll reach a gate at the Mokuleia Firebreak Road and some shade. This also signals the end of the climbing. You've then got about five miles to cool down on Mokuleia Forest Road as it winds its way near the ridge. Eventually, you'll start a much more gradual climb, reaching 1,900 feet. There are occasional views of the Pacific to keep you entertained.

At the other end of Mokuleia Firebreak Road, you've got your choice of the extremely technical singletracks: (a) Kealia or (b) Kuaokala Ridge Trail or option (c) which is to continue on Kuaokala Firebreak Road. Perhaps the correct answer to this test is (d) all of the above on the Peacock Flats Loop ride.
