Overview
The Puente Abadía ride in Villavicencio is one of the most iconic routes in the capital of Meta and the obligatory tour for mountain bikers that visit the city.
The ride takes riders to the north of the city by the eastern edge of the river Guataquía on
Abadia I until arriving at
El Tobogán river crossing on a suspension bridge that gives its name to the route. This puts riders onto the other side of the river in order to return to the city on
Abadia II and the original starting point.
Need to Know
Be aware of minor landslides in heavy rain seasons.
Description
When we left "El Amarradero", we headed north on a paved road and after 2.4 kilometers we started our first ascent, leaving behind the paved road and entering
Abadia I dirt roads with thick jungle on both sides.
We reached the first summit quickly where we saw to the river Guataquía in all its splendor.
The route continues through challenging and snaking descents full of vegetation that took us to a steep, narrow, and technical descent that will test your ability on the bicycle.
A suspension bridge and obligatory photograph culminate this descent on
El Tobogán to ascend the opposite bank of the river and begin the return towards the city on
Abadia II.
The route continues similarly to the starting section, with ascents and descents until reaching the sector of Bavaria. At this point, we took paved roads to return to Villavicencio toward the Hotel del Llano.
