Overview
This is a wonderful and varied trail through a beautiful area filled with dense and open woods along reliefs created by the last ice age, giving it significant vertical feet by Dutch standards. The trail never lets up and can be fun for all levels.
It has it all: climbs, weaving singletracks, jumps and small features. It's well signposted and maintained as a part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug Trail system. The Amerongen trail can easily be combined with other trails in the area, like the Leersum trail.
Need to Know
Riding the trails in this area requires a Vignet (pass) which can be bought at many places, including most local bike shops. The pass is valid for one year and covers all the trails in the area. It also helps maintain the trails. For more information,

Description
The trail can be started in several different spots (with parking), including:
- Groene Entree Amerongen, Parkeerplaats Sportcomplex de Burgwal, Burgwal 1, 3958 ER in Amerongen
- Groene Entree Prattenburg, Cuneraweg t.o. 416, 3911 RW in Rhenen
- Parkeerplaats Bergweg 10 in Amerongen
.
Regardless of where you start, short climbs alternate with fun undulations and flowy descents. Occasional berms and approachable features add to the fun on this mostly singletrack loop. In addition to singletrack, riders will encounter unpaved roads. But you'll never actually have to cross a paved road.
History & Background
The trail has received steady improvements over the last few years, with the last major overhaul occurring in 2015. In the area there are seven other trails, four of which are often ranked in the top 10 favorite Dutch mountain bike trails according to
