Description

This is a very cool, remote, and challenging ride. Accessing it requires a shuttle or a 10 mile climb up Saddleback Road, a steep dirt road that departs just half a mile west of Downieville. The trail starts off of Chimney Rock Road 1.2 where it turns down to head to Rattlesnake Creek.

The singletrack takes off to the left and becomes narrow and very rocky as it descends slightly while skirting the left side of the ridge. It then climbs through the forest up a series of loose switchbacks. This trail is open to dirt bikes and can be very loose and rocky, making it challenging to ride at times.

Soon you'll be following the ridge with great views of Chimney Rock and surrounding features. The trail has some fun sections as it climbs up, down, and around the narrow ridge. After about 4.0 miles, it begins another major climb with switchbacks to the signed intersection with Claycroft Ridge. Stay left to continue to the end where it intersects Empire Creek Trail.
