Overview
Incredible terrain with stunning Lake Tahoe Views. You climb 8,000 feet and descend over 10,000 feet in 65 miles.
Need to Know
You need to wait until the snow melts. Depending on the snow year, this is either early June or late July. There is generally a stream or lake every 10 miles, except for the stretch from Spooner to Kingsbury. Bring a lightweight water treatment option to filter springs.
Description
This ride is an annual event put on by the Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association (TAMBA) over Labor Day. It incorporates many of the basin's best trails. You start near Mt. Rose and ride the Tahoe Rim Trail (mostly down) to the Flume Trail which you follow to Spooner Summit. You can pre-stash some food here (hide an animal-proof container in the woods).
You continue south on the Rim Trail to Kingsbury Grade (another spot to pre-stash food). From here, the climbing begins and is pretty hard all the way to Star Lake. This is an epic alpine lake. Continue on the Rim Trail and do one more big climb to the top of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. You're gassed at this point, and now get to do Tahoe's most legendary technical downhill to the bottom!
Please support TAMBA and The Tahoe Rim Trail Association, which maintains and improves these trails!
