Need to Know
The Kintionki trailhead is a half mile ride from the
Bloodroot Trail parking lot. The Bloodroot parking lot is across from the Otter-Run Interpretative Center and Trading Post, which is in the Salamonie Lake campground area (9214 Lost Bridge Rd W, Andrews, IN 46702).
From the parking lot, head out on the
Bloodroot Trail on mowed grass for a half mile until you see the Kintionki trailhead sign.
Description
This pure singletrack is a flowing trail with berms, whoops, and pump-tracks. There are no long hill climbs, just a lot of flowing trail that any skill level can walk, ride, or run.
From the Kintionki trailhead sign, you'll ride north on a short section of mowed grass as you head to the forest. When you reach the forest, you'll find four miles of pure flowing singletrack. After four miles, you'll reach the east end of the Kintionki trail as it Ts into the
Bloodroot Trail, which is mowed grass. You can ride the mowed grass (inbound
Bloodroot Trail) back to the Kintionki trailhead sign, which will complete a 4.5-mile clockwise loop OR turn around and ride Kintionki in the other direction (east to west) and get another four miles of FUN!
There are many beautiful viewpoints on the close to five miles of the Kintionki loop as it winds through the tall forest and along the ridges and peninsulas of the high ground that borders the 2,855-acre Salamonie Lake.
The Miami Tribe of Oklahoma Preservation-Committee named this trail. The Miami name of Kintionki means "place of the eagle," and there are several bald eagle nesting sites in the Salamonie Lake area.
