Need to Know

Be ready for anything. No brown bears have been seen in this region recently but there was a lot of berry-seed-ridden-black-bear scat along the way, and there are moose, elk, and deer in this area.

Mid-way there is a bog with no way around -- one must toughen up a little and just do it.

HTFU as we say in SE Wyoming!

Description

The Tie Hack trail connects the North French Creek Road (FR 225) to the lower FR 206. Most of the trail follows North French Creek. There is a beautiful meadow near the top with a boardwalk on part of it. Have lunch or a snack there.

There are at least five bridges and as of 9/2/2018, two of them are blown out and require creek crossing over rocks and logs. A clearing effort was done recently as evidenced by almost all downed trees being cut out, although there are a few new ones -- perhaps 3-4 along the way.

This trail is NOT for the rider who refuses to hike-a-bike now and then, or get a little muddy: it is adventure riding at its best.

The two drawbacks to this trail are 1) that it is not longer and 2) that both trailheads are so far from the nearest town. But kept in a quiver of rides to do in cool places to go, it is a great resource to know and ride.

There is, however, a lot of smooth singletrack! Ride from the top of this after descending the French Creek Trail and finish at the French Creek CG. It was also a nice out-and-back from the bottom.

The upper trailhead is not easy to spot. Look for the little 'Trail' signs which are about 50m either side of the TH.
