The Indiana DNR requires an Off-Road Cycling Permit to ride bicycles on trails not marked as Beginner trails. The trails at Owen-Putnam require the permit. The annual permits are $20.00 each and the daily permits are $5.00 each. Permits are required from January 1st through December 31st.

Only ride in the driest of conditions as the mud bogs make the riding less than crappy if it has rained at all within the past couple of weeks. Fun to ride in the winter when the trail is completely frozen.

This is a beautiful hardwood forest in a remote location. It doesn't get much traffic so be prepared to take care of yourself.

The parking area is small, enough for 3 or 4 cars. Additional parking is available at the nearby horse camp. The trailhead can be accessed by a short ride on a gravel road from the horse camp.

The bike trail is the Blue Trail, one of the Horse Trails, and lies north of Atkinsonville Rd.

The trail is marked with blue decals, a horse, and a bicycle on Carsonite brand posts. The markers are located on the right side of the trail until you pass the halfway point on the loop. At that point, the markers will be on the left side. Another way of telling if you are going out or coming back is that the horse on the sign is inside a "barn" if you are riding toward the horse camp.

To get to the trailhead parking lot (4-6 car capacity), travel north on Fish Creek Rd. until you reach the intersection of Atkinsonville Rd. – Hale Hill Rd., which is approximately five miles north of State Road 46. Turn left (west) and travel approximately 0.75 miles to the trailhead parking lot located on the right (north) side of Atkinsonville Rd. Please do not block the fire lane entrance, which is normally marked by a steel cable stretched across it.

Please keep a few things in mind:
- Mountain bikes are only permitted on the marked areas of the Blue Horse Trail.
- Cyclists share the trail with horseback riders. Right-of way should be yielded to people on horseback.
