Need to Know

Trail 109 continues south from the Chapel of San Bernardo to the city of Quattro Strade, but this portion of the trail is for hikers only.

Description

This route starts in the center of Missaglia following the paved via alle Valli. After passing first through some agricultural lands, the route veers left onto a closed-to-traffic gravel road at 2 km (1.2 mi). This section of the route is also know as the Sentiero del Cancello, and is the only gravel portion of the route.

After a tough climb on the Sentiero del Cancello, the route joins the paved road which runs along the center of the spine that runs through the center of the Parco Regionale di Montevecchia e della Valle del Curone. This road climbs to Montevecchia and the Parrocchia S. Giovanni Battista Martire (church). From its terrace, there is a commanding view of Milano and (on a clear day) the Apenninies Mountains over 100 mi to the south in the background. You'll have to visit the Parrocchia without the bicycle though as there is a pretty good set of stairs leading up to them.
