Description

Access is just south of the "Hole in the Rock" store/home/zoo etc on Hwy 191. If heading south from Moab, turn right (west) just past Hole in the Rock after cresting a small hill. The road is signed. Park in the lot immediately on the left, and the road starts immediately to your right (north).

This is a popular 4x4 route, but is great fun for bikes, too. Highly recommend riding it from south to north, which is opposite of the way the 4x4's do it. It's all downhill going from S to N. It would be especially challenging riding it N to S.

The road drops down into Kane Creek proper pretty quick and depending on water levels you'll start crossing the creek for the first of many, many, many times pretty soon. You may even have to ride in the creek itself for a ways. Follow the road until the first major junction is reached, where you can either stay high above the creek on the left or drop down and cross the canyon on a short bridge. Staying high will land you on Hamburger Hill, a very rough downhill with giant drops and loose rock. Either way is good. After this is more or less following the road through countless stream crossings and fantastic scenery. Quite a bit of sand, but nothing unrideable.

After nine miles, the creek crossings stop and an exit out right leads to a fun descent to the junction with Kane Creek Rd proper, near Ledge E campground. 100% of this trail is on doubletrack road, no singletrack.

From here, you can have a shuttle waiting, or ride down Kane Creek Road back to Amasa Back/Jackson's parking for more fun, or all the way to Moab. For an epic 40-mile, 3,500 ft. gain loop, portage up the short hike-a-bike on Hunter Canyon Rim and ride it to the junction with Pritchett Canyon / Behind the Rocks Road, then ride BTR all the way back to Highway 191 and a short downhill road ride back to your car.

Wet as heck, Sandy beyond all belief, but pretty. This is hellish to ride N to S, not sure I'd do this again without a fat bike. 23.6mi — 6h 45m

Wet is right--you are riding in the creek for a substantial distance. I'm surprised this is a legal trail. But it's a gorgeous place!
