It's in a State Park with a small nature trail, small beach area, camping, RV sites, and the trail is great to hike. There are docks for easy fishing and plenty of places for the kids to play.
Need to Know
The closest town with amenities is 7 miles so you should come prepared with food, drinks, etc. There are restrooms and showers near the RV park. This trail is rocky and very hardy. It can get a little sloppy in a few areas, but overall it holds up very well to the crazy OK conditions.
Description
This is a fun little half-mile section that starts right at the main trailhead for the
West Loop. You enter the trail going counter-clockwise just like you would if riding the
West Loop in the typical direction. Just a few 100 feet into the trail, you'll come to a "Y". Take the LEFT this time.
You'll immediately hit more granite rocks with a little dirt here and there. There is one really steep, difficult climb that meanders up through some small granite baby head rocks. This one is tough. Once you reach the top, you drop down a super cool granite slab. Here we use small rocks to show the path since it's a solid chunk of granite.
You finish from there and wind your way through a few more tricky, but fun little areas as you head back to the regular trail exit near the picnic area. Take a left and you'll be right back at the start and main trailhead.
Often we park and have beers at this little picnic table near the exit of this loop instead of the paved parking lot marked on the map.
