The lower part of the trail is smooth and rolling, the middle section gets a little rocky, adventurous with one creek crossing. The upper section is more difficult and requires some basic skills but you don't need to be Nino Schurter to survive the ride.

If you begin riding from Grassy Hollow Road, hop on the doubletrack and soon enough you'll hit open space - keep left and locate a narrow trail in the tall grass, pink tape on the top of the young pine trees will help you out. Jump over two big logs and get through 10 yards passage cut through brushes. Then there's nothing but downhill until you reach Davis Branch. Keep in mind there are a few tight corners on the way, slippery roots and pointy rocks as well.

Once you cross the creek, follow the track towards the left uphill. Somewhat technical climb will bring you to the top of the hill where track turns into dirt road. After this, everything calms down, and you'll actually enjoy the flowy ride to Pine Log Main Road.

If you choose to start at Pine Log Main Road, it's all fun and jokes for the first mile and a half or so until you reach Davis Branch. Cross the creek and keep right to find out that psychotic pedaling brings you nearly nowhere. There are steep sections with 25% grade incline and ridiculously difficult segments with rock gardens, slippery roots, so don't feel bad if you have to walk a fair bit for a while as it might be a bit much.

If you decide to toughen up and ride the uphill, it will be a really rewarding feeling of completion once you reach open space, however, you might find yourself thinking about the Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics "Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all". Last couple of minutes of the trail is super easy and gives you a chance to oxygenate your brain so you can recover by the time you reach Grassy Hollow.
