Description
This road around Mauna Kea is unique. You'll have the opportunity to see owls, ground birds, volcanic calderas, silversword and multiple ecosystems including the Mauna Kea Ice Age Natural Area Reserve. It is extremely long at close to 40 miles, almost entirely Jeep road.
You can expect FULL sun 80% of the time, with possible high winds, mist, rain, incredible stars at night and, if you're lucky, maybe even snow. Cell service is not reliable and you must check in at one of the stations. Have a plan if an emergency occurs and let someone know where you're going so that you can be found.
Altitude is between 7,200' - 10,000'.
