Need to Know
This trail is very steep, and goes constantly downhill, with barely any breaks. There are gigantic ruts cut into the trail by water, some 2 feet deep. The trail is very slippery as well, first timers should go slowly and cautiously on this trail.
Some parking at the trailhead at the end of Covington.
Description
From the labyrinth at the top, take the westward trail. At every fork, go straight—the other ways are dead end trails that force you to trek back uphill. The fire trail turns left after about half a mile, but if you continue straight, you'll see a singletrack alternative way down. The singletrack takes you through some trees that the fire road does not.
There are two different singletracks down, one is very short and VERY steep and rocky, not recommended. The other singletrack winds down the hill more gradually, and connects back to the fire road. Alternatively, you can take the fire road down the whole way, but it is steeper than the singletrack.
Once the singletrack connects back to the fire road, there are couple routes, but as long as you are going down, you'll make it back to the trailhead, at the end of Covington Drive.
