Nimblewill Road (FS 28-2)

This road starts near Nimblewill Baptist Church near the main entrance to the Bull Mountain trail complex at FS28-1. Initially it is paved as it passes past some farms and houses. After about two miles, it enters USFS land and switches to gravel. At four miles it becomes significantly steeper as it climbs four miles and roughly 1,000 ft up to Nimblewill Gap.

The Appalachian Approach Trail (no bikes) and Amicalola Creek Road (FS 46) both intersect at the gap with Amicalola Creek Road (FS 46) leading into Amicalola Falls State Park.

The descent from Nimblewill Gap to the north is a rough, rocky, and rutted affair. The descent is slightly steeper than the climb with 1,000 ft elevation loss in about three miles. Overall, this is one of the better forest road descents in the Bull Mountain area. Only Winding Stair Gap Road FS77 can give it a run for its money, but at least until Nimblewill Road sees some maintenance, it is the more technical of the two descents (if you can call a forest road descent technical). Once the descent is over, the road leaves USFS land, becoming flatter and paved again.

Another downside is that the only way to get back to the Bull Mountain area is a long, paved road ride to the north or to turn around and ride back over the gap. There was a nice loop with Anderson Creek Road (FS 357), but a key part of the loop has been abandoned and isn't really passable anymore.
