Overview
High-country loop that traverses around the Boulder Meadows valley bottom. Plenty of hike-a-bike struggle but an awesome premium downhill at the end and spectacular views make it worth while to bring the bike. Doing the
Kelly Pass Trail #155 as an out-and-back would be a great easier option.
Need to Know
Bring plenty of water (there are lots of small streams though). Heavy bear country so bear spray and being loud is recommended.
Description
Start at the Timber Mountain Trailhead #51 and stay on this for 3.5 miles. At this point, you cross a small stream and some wooden walkways.
Timber Mountain Trail #51 forks off and up to the left (unmarked presently) and the the
Orville Heath Trail #54 continues straight curving to the right and up.
Stay on #54 until you come to the next junction with the Pend Oreille Trail heading south. This section to here is longer than it looks on a map.
Take the right fork here and start traversing your way towards Eagle Mountain. Many miles of up and down with much bike pushing will finally bring you to the junction with
Kelly Pass Trail #155, Grouse Creek Trail, and the Eagle Mountain Summit Trail (super views on the summit).
Take a right here and start the awesome descent down into the Boulder Meadows valley. Once near the bottom, continue straight onto the
Boulder Meadows Trail #57 for about 1.5 miles as it leads you across streams and walkways until you reach the parking area for Boulder Meadows.
From here, it is a very short ride on the dirt road back to the Timber Mountain trailhead. Instead of the
Boulder Meadows Trail #57 you can continue on
Kelly Pass Trail #155 as it will eventually lead back to
Timber Mountain Trail #51.
