Need to Know

The creek crossing is rideable by mid summer, but can present a challenge at any time due to loose rolling rocks in the streambed. Think twice before crossing the creek during high water conditions during spring or early summer, the creek may not be safely passable!

Description

This two-way trail is open to foot and bike traffic. Recommended travel for bikes is uphill from east to west. The trail follows along Dutch Creek, mostly at mellow grades, with occasionally steeper bermed turns or natural rock features to navigate. The most difficult moment may be the creek crossing near lower end of the trail. You'll spend time in dark timber forests down low, then encounter small meadows, ponds, and finally a large area that has been reclaimed and restored from the coal mining activity that took place here from 1956-1991.

Use this trail to ride a clockwise loop with Bear Ridge Trail, or to continue to the bigger views and higher elevation of the Coal Basin Trail.
