Description
Completed in Summer 2021, Rise-N-Shine provides a beginner-friendly connection to the Arkansas Hills system, offering easier climbs and less exposure than the network's other popular climbing route,
Frontside. Expect relatively smooth dirt with the potential for small rocks washed loose by rain.
This is a great trail for newer riders to develop their skills and gain confidence, and a solid option for all riders seeking a more casual and less-crowded way to get into the Ark Hills.
The trail is bidirectional, though most riders travel uphill (as described here) before descending via
Dream On --->
Chicken Dinner Trail. Riding out and back (or rather, up and down) Rise and Shine also makes for a nice ride in itself.
-----
From the lower trailhead, immediately begin to climb a series of long, gentle switchbacks. There's one tighter section, but it's short. The initial climb brings you to the top of a mesa with wide-open views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Catch your breath and enjoy the view before making the final ascent to the intersection with
Dream On.
From there, you can get back to town a few ways.
• Return the way you came. Rise and Shine's wide switchbacks are perfect for improving bike handling skills, and there are a few little kickers to practice getting air, too.
• Turn right (south) on
Dream On and take it to
Chicken Dinner Trail. Descend Chicken Dinner to the train tracks / 4x4 road.
• Turn left (north) on
Dream On and follow it to
Backbone. From there, take your pick of trails to complete your ride.
