Need to Know

Coaster does intersect with both Livewire [jump line] and Boondocks [double black diamond] trails, so watch for faster traffic approaching from the uphill side.

Description

Coaster is a Blue rated trail from the top of the Tahoe Zephyr Express lift where you access a number of the most popular trails at Northstar - including Gypsy, Livewire, and Boondocks.

Coaster is an excellent way to warm up/down and for newer riders to gain experience before attempting the more challenging single black diamond trails in the park.

The start is right next to the entrance to Gypsy, just a short ride down the fire-road access to the right as you exit the lift. There are a number of small features such as rocks, pavers, a short boardwalk section and some small lip jumps and drops, but nothing that can't be rolled if you're a less confident or less experienced rider.

Coaster winds it's way down the hill between Gypsy and Livewire (affording an occasional glimpse of some of the bigger features on those trails) and has a number of trail crossings with other routes (including Boondocks) so always look for uphill traffic approaching fast, and who have right of way.

The surface is well groomed and has some lovely flowing berms along its length which tend to not be as blown out with breaking bumps as some of the more challenging and [overly] popular trails on this side of the mountain.

note. You can also mix things up a bit by incorporating certain portions of Livewire which are accessed from the various intersections between the two trails.
