Overview

Fun and hard 100 mile MTB (and ultra marathon) race spanning the Arizona Trail from Flagstaff to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Need to Know

This race is run by the Arizona Trail Association with collaboration with Babbitt Ranches. Trail conditions vary along the route, the most technical part of this race is at the beginning during the initial climb from the start to Aspen Corner.

Description

The Stagecoach Line 100 is a tough 100 mile route that mostly consists of singletrack with some short two-track and gravel sections. The majority of the course is rolling hills with major climbs at the very beginning (mile 1 through 6 and 9 through 12) and one long climb during the second half (~mile 55 through 79). There is one punchy climb right after the third aid station beginning at mile 80.

The total elevation gain is stated to be approximately 7000'. A lot of the 2022 course includes new singletrack sections built to fill in the AZT between the north face of the San Francisco Peaks and Babbitt Ranches (historically this section has been done on two track roads). There are 3 fully supported aid stations along the course: first at mile 30, second at mile 55 and third at mile 80.

History & Background

The Stagecoach Line 100 was established as an ultra marathoning race that mirrors the original Stagecoach Line route used in the 1800s for shuttling people from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon.
