Overview
Perfect loop for a fall afternoon ride in the foothills of the Franklin Mountains. Moderately challenging, mostly singletrack ride that includes navigating rocky terrain, a few short steep climbs, a few drop ins-particularly coming down
The Worm-expansive views, and don't forget to stop by the "beer fridge" for a break, it's about half way up
Covid 19.
Need to Know
No parking fee at this trailhead, no restroom. Plenty of meal options just a few miles west at the Cimmaron shopping center.
Description
Start at the
Lost Dog trailhead just north of Helen of Troy Ave off Redd Road. Take
Lost Dog trail north and east to the sharp switchback, at which point you'll go left onto the entrance to
The Worm trail. Another left after a few hundred yards onto
Worm Valley. Staying left again onto lower
Milo's Revenge, taking a right at the next junction onto
Covid 19.
This is a really well-thought-out trail that meanders east toward the Franklins eventually connecting to
El Refri. Take a right when you connect and continue east up
El Refri until the junction with
The Worm, take a right and begin the descent on
The Worm.
This fun section is loose and rocky with several sharp rocky drop in switchbacks to navigate as you work your way back to the junction with
Worm Valley then back to
Lost Dog and out to trailhead parking lot.
This loop's trails, except for
Lost Dog, are unmarked but navigation is made easier with the
MTB Project mobile app. I suspect at some point signage will go up in this area as its popularity grows.
