Do not cross the wilderness boundary.

Snowshed Basin trail picks up where Snowshed #246 ends (for mountain bikers). From the trail junction, continue on the singletrack as it follows the fence line. The trail will eventually align and run parallel to Cave Creek. There are several short, undulating climbing and descending sections that are steep and filled with large baby head rocks. You may find it necessary to hike a bike these sections. This trail is still mostly rideable but it is more challenging than Snowshed #246.

If you did not already check out John Hands Waterfall when you drove up the road, you should take the opportunity to follow the trail sign and short connector that leads to the falls the trail passes right by this feature. In fact, viewing the falls is probably the highlight of this trail.

Eventually, you'll pass through a gate that takes you to the other side of the fence and down a short, steep hill that ends in a water crossing that traverses Cave Creek and takes you to the lower section of the Herb Martyr campground. Technically, the trail continues up into the higher ridges of the Chiricahua Mountains, but the only option for mountain biking is to go through the gate and into Herb Martyr as the other option brings you across the wilderness boundary.
