A advanced tour of the Farris Creek/Strand Hill area showcasing long mountain meadows, aspen groves, and some great forest descending. This is a beautiful ride as the colors are changing in the fall and is great if you're looking to escape the crowds or you've already checked off some of the other classic rides in the Crested Butte area.

Be prepared for wet feet and use extreme caution crossing streams in spring and early summer during periods of high water.

You go through several gates on this loop. Be sure to close all gates behind you. This ride is best done after the snow has melted in the spring and before the snow comes in the fall.

PARKING:
Large parking lot at Brush Creek Trail with ~1 mile of perfectly flat road to the start of Farris Road (nice stretch before the immediate uphill climb).
Limited parking at obvious off-road pull-offs.
Parking on the shoulder/road is subject to tickets.

Park at the Brush Creek trailhead and climb up Brush Creek Road #738 for about a mile, take a right at the gated entrance to Farris Creek Road #736 and continue climbing the dirt road. Stay right at the junction with Strand Hill Road #736.1A. At almost two miles in, you'll climb up through the long alpine meadow with views of aspen and various timber. Shortly after four miles come to a trail split and start Strawberry Trail #627.

Strawberry Trail #627 starts out climbing through aspen groves on singletrack. You're efforts will be rewarded shortly. Once you hit the high point of the trail, pass through a closed wire gate and start a fun, ripping downhill through pine forests. There are several kicker jumps along the trail so watch for fun alternate lines and make sure your brakes are working, this section is fast.

The trail spits you out at the first crossing with Brush Creek (which likely will involve wet feet no matter the season). Turn left along Brush Creek Road #738. Follow the road until you see a trail junction on the left that goes to Farris Creek Trail #409 and Canal Trail. Follow this trail toward Canal Trail and go through another closed wire gate right before a second stream crossing. To avoid unnecessary uphill stay on Canal Trail until it meets up with Brush Creek Road #738 after a third water crossing (depending on time of year). Follow the dirt road back to your car.
