Seasonal closure (above the powerline road only) December 1st – April 15th. Solstice is downhill only. One Way Only: This is designated as a directional trail.

Overview

With the construction of the Sol Train trails—and especially once Solstice was completed—Salida could finally claim to offer several bonafide downhill flow trails! These entertaining flow trails are filled with fantastic jumps, machine-built berms, and rollers. This route hits both of the Sol Train trails before finishing on Solstice. Of the three, Solstice is, without a doubt, the best of the flow trails in the entire Salida Mountain Trails network. One lap on Solstice is never enough—feel free to pedal back up for seconds!

Description

Begin the ride from the Burmac Trailhead by climbing the Race Track trail. Even though Race Track is a fairly popular downhill route, it also provides a very achievable uphill climb.

Once at the top of Race Track, this route gets a bit more complicated. Follow the Rainbow Trail west to Sun Up and then turn left steeply uphill on the Sun Up trail. At the top of both of the Sol Train flow trails, begin by ripping down Sol Train East (on the left) back to the top of Race Track.

Next, retrace your tire tracks along Little Rainbow and back up Sun Up to a right turn onto Sol Train West for another fun downhill back to the Little Rainbow trail. Then, pedal further west along Little Rainbow, crossing CR 108, until you reach the right turn onto Solstice.

Drop your saddle and get ready for a fantastic jump trail descent! The jumps on Solstice are all rollable tabletops, but they do reward riding at trail speed and good popping skills.

Solstice is over all too quickly, ending on the side of CR 108. If you haven't had enough yet, you can pedal back up CR 108 and take a right on Little Rainbow for a second lap on Solstice.

Once you're done lapping Solstice, drop down CR 108 to Highway 50/Rainbow Boulevard. Take a right along the sidewalk, and then look for a right onto a gravel path that takes you over a bridge into Vandaveer Ranch. The route shown here squiggles through Vandaveer to avoid the highway. After popping out of Vandaveer, it crosses the road onto a dirt road/doubletrack to finish the highway-free connection to the Burmac Trailhead. Many of the turns in this section will be unsigned, and the trails here may change as Vandaveer is eventually developed. But for now, it's a great way to finish the loop without riding on the highway.
