Fairy Lake Road is gated by the Forest Service until June 16

Park at the Carrol Creek Trailhead directly before the Third Gate on the Fairy Lake Road.

Climb 1.5 miles up the Fairy Lake Road until you reach a large, flat clearing. The Shafthouse trail climbs out of the north side of this clearing. Steep climb may merit pushing your bike in places, but the climb goes by pretty quick. At the top, you'll get great views of the jagged Northern Bridgers.

From there, follow the trail down the descent. You'll get a mix of chunk, some switchbacks, and some faster wide open sections. After descending 2.2 miles, you'll Cross Carrol Creek (FS 527). Take a right turn here and gradually climb the Forest Service Road back to your car. The full Shafthouse descent continues straight from this junction, and ends on Seitz Road, requiring a shuttle or long pedal back up to your car. This loop gets you most of the good descending on the Shafthouse trail with a quicker and easier route back to your car.
