Need to Know
Ore shredder is an unsanctioned trail located in an old abandoned mining area known to some as "The Wasteland". The Wasteland is not a family place, due to the common presence of homeless encampments, piles of trash and discarded vehicles, people firing guns and going off road with motorized vehicles. It is recommended to park outside of the area, such as at Montana Tech, and access at your own risk.
Description
Ore shredder is a slow and technical trail that follows a rocky and tree lined ridge across the Western side of the Wasteland. It has tight switchbacks, big rocks, and small sections of slab that provide a style of riding that is uncommon around Butte which is both fun and challenging. The trail can be ridden in either direction, but it is much easier to ride it downhill heading North to South.
There are several places where the trail may be a little unclear where it crosses doubletrack or grassy fields, but riders have been making an effort to mark corners and junctions with rocks. The start of the trail at either end is not signposted so GPS use is a must if you're unfamiliar with it. The northern end starts off doubletrack, while the southern end comes off the Bluebird Trail Road.
