Need to Know
There is no parking directly at the trailhead. Parking can be found across the road at the Philipsburg Town Park, where there are other facilities as well.
Description
Ridgeview Scenic Trail begins opposite the Philipsburg Town Park, and there is a bulletin board for the start of the trail on the eastern side of Hwy 10A Business Loop. The trail is often done as a lollipop loop that has a stick at both the bottom and the top ends. The trail has a machined surface and is open to all non-motorized users, but is most popular with runners and hikers. It travels through Forest Service horse pasture, which means high weather exposure, but great views most of the time. If you are lucky you might see horses and mules grazing.
On a mountain bike, the riding is relatively easy and non-technical, although it can be quite bumpy in places because of the horse traffic.
The upper (eastern) side of the loop follows a ridgeline. At the apex of the loop, a short trail follows a spur to a picnic table and a great viewpoint. You can see the Pintler Mountains to the south, and the Long John Mountains to the west.
Continuing around the loop, the trail drops down the hillside to the west, then traverses north and joins back up with the other side of the loop at the base of the ridge.
