Overview

The Flagstaff Loop Trail is still in progress, but the majority of the 42-mile proposed route has been completed. It will eventually comprise a full wheel around the city linking the urban trail network and national forest trails. As it currently stands, the whole thing is rideable with only a few short sections on motorized roads. Ride the Loop in sections, altogether in one big day, or to make casual bikepacking trip in Flagstaff's back yard.

Need to Know

The Flagstaff Loop Trail (FLT) is marked on posts in some places, but not everywhere throughout its current alignment. Refer to the map here and to resources on flagstaffbiking.org for the latest updates.

Description

As mapped here the route begins at the new Shultz Creek trailhead, but you could choose any of several trailheads to start from. Throughout the course of the loop you'll experience many different trail types, from rocky singletrack to crushed gravel and some pavement. Difficulties range from very easy on the urban trails to rather difficult on the Elden trails like Rocky Ridge. The majority of the loop's 42 miles are on natural surface through the extensive pine forests surrounding Flagstaff. It's a surprisingly secluded feeling route for being in the city limits.
