Need to Know

Russell Tank is a reliable water source along this passage. Dispersed camping is allowed along most of the route. The northern end of this segment is at Grandview Lookout Tower, where there is a toilet but no water.

Description

This is the passage of Arizona Trail (AZT) between the Babbitt Ranch passage and the Grand Canyon South Rim. It is mostly singletrack, and relatively smooth but with gradual elevation gain in the northbound direction. The scenery is high desert grassland and ponderosa forest. When the trail reaches the rim of the Coconino Plateau, it suddenly reveals views over the Grand Canyon.
