Overview
This is part of the Big South Fork - IMBA Epic ride. This is a good shorter ride if you don't feel like going 33 miles!
Description
This is part of the Big South Fork IMBA Epic ride.
From the Bandy Creek Visitors Center, head west on the paved road. The road will soon turn into gravel. Ride past the cemetery and look for the
Collier Ridge Trail sign on the left. Head downhill to cross Bandy Creek at the bottom. The climb starts and gradually heads uphill for the next mile or so. Towards the top, the trail goes across some exposed sandstone that is reminiscent of slickrock. At the top of the hill, the trail turns right. There's rolling singletrack for the next couple of miles. Soon the trail comes out at the highway and parallels the road for the next 1/2 mile.
Go behind the parking lot and follow the trail to where it crosses the gravel road. After crossing Bandy Creek Road is the start of the
West Bandy Trail.
West Bandy rolls along with a couple of sandstone sections and a couple of attention-getting hills until it intersects with Bandy Creek Road again.
Left on the gravel to the first left on another gravel will put you on Bypass Road. At the first intersection, stay to the right. Bypass Road crosses three small valleys. At the top of the third hill, look for the Duncan Hollow trailhead on the left. The first 1/2 mile is relatively flat and then drops into Duncan Hollow. A short steep descent drops into a creek crossing and then climbs steadily for the next couple of miles. At the top, the trail hits Bypass Road again. Turn left and soon Bypass tees into
Duncan Hollow Road. A right turn and a couple of miles of gravel will bring you back to the Bandy Creek Visitor Center.
