Description
The trailhead at Lake Howard has a single entrance to the COGS trail. COGS rolls up and down for a short distance until an intersection with the
Ridge Loop. This short loop can be ridden on the way out on your return. If you continue, you'll shortly pop out onto a dirt road that runs across an earthen dam. This crossing will lead to the toughest climb on the loop, a short dirt road that climbs sharply upwards for a few hundred meters. It has a singletrack bypass to the left.
Take the singletrack left, or continue up the road to the top and go left to re-enter the COGS loop. This next short section of the COGS trail eventually pops out on a doubletrack connector. The Bill's Creek loop and Lake loop trails branch off to the right. The preferred route is to continue past the entrance to Bill's Creek and Lake. Enter Lake to the right and ride that loop, then Bill's Creek, then return to the trailhead reversing the direction of the ride out.
