Description

Start at the Hungry Gulch Campground entrance. The trailhead is on the left and marked with an information board and sign in box. Head straight up the singletrack to the fire road, cross it then take the singletrack to the left.

The hard pack trail climbs through trees, grass and wildflowers. The four switchbacks may challenge before you reach a rocky outcrop. The trail actually takes you around a large boulder on the outcrop before heading up hill again. The trail can be a bit vague, try to follow it (rather than make your own) to a trail junction. Cross it.

The trail now becomes exposed and sandy as it traverses the hill. This section includes soft sand, rocks, wind, steep switchbacks and a challenging rock section. You'll finish this section at a fire road. Cross it but head left.

The trail changes back to mostly hard pack as it winds between boulders around the knoll before terminating at Isabella Peak. Take in the views of Lake Isabella and surrounding mountains.

Beautiful dry day with 7-11 mph winds. Some hike a bike due to decomposed granite, steepness, switchbacks.
