Description
Mossy Rock is a steep, rock strewn trail that drops off the top of the ridge. Grades at the top of the trail exceed 20%. Initially it is loose packed dirt, but then transitions into a rock garden. After crossing a small creek, the bottom half of the trail is smoother packed dirt.
To reach it from the parking lot at the front of Kanawha State Forest, travel a bit over 5 miles up Middle Ridge Road/
Middle Ridge Trail. Mossy Rock will be on the right and is marked.
At the bottom of trail, you'll intersect with a dirt road/doubletrack. If you turn left, you can climb back up to the top of the ridge, connecting back in with Middle Ridge Road/Middle Ridge Trial. This is a very steep climb. If you turn right, you'll ride along the dirt road connecting back in with the main paved road through Kanawha State Davis Creek Trial near the Kanawha State Forest swimming pool.
Directly across the from the end of the trial is CCC Snip Trail. The CCC Snipe Trail is for hikers only and mountain bikes are prohibited.
