Beginning descent of the west escarpment
Steady ascent towards the south Cerro peak. The trail is wide but studded with rocks.
Trail skirts this escarpment. Below it the "bowl" area of El Cerro de Los Lunas Preserve.
Trail between north and south peaks is rough but not excessively steep
Example of fine and steep silty trail. Once up higher on the basalt the tread changes to basalt sand, gravel, and baby heads.
Climbing out of the Bowl proper the trail is nicely contoured so grades are moderate
