So jump forward...you did 4.5 miles of pavement, the rest dirt, plus the 5.5 mile climb out of the bottom to get you nearly 2000' of climbing before seeing this: the Blue Ridge Parkway, milepost 93.1.
Another view of Mineshaft trailhead. You can blow right past it, it's exactly 1 mile from the picnic table at the top.
Look for the trail - take a sharp right upwards and backwards just ahead of bike.
Ahh...the moss berms. Greenery even in the dead of winter.
