Looking towards the tree tunnel a bit further into the meadow. The trail zig zags along a contour line flanked with established trees mostly 10-12 inches in diameter.

Mile-a-minute weed (Persicaria perfoliata) is a vigorous, barbed vine that smothers other herbaceous plants, shrubs and even trees by growing over them.
Hercules Club aka Devil's Walking Stick. Don't try to lean on one of these. This one is about 2" in diameter, and also has spikes sticking up between its opposite leaves. This plant is kind of a jerk.
Thorny rose and berry bushes dominate the uphill side of the "meadow".

Virginia Stickseed (Hackelia virginiana), has minute spikes on its seed coat that adhere like velcro to most any fabric (or fur) at the slightest touch. Can cause itching.
