Description

Following the contours of Council Bluff Lake, the Lake Shore Trail is a Missouri favorite. There is very little elevation gain, but short ups and downs around the the lake provide great fast-paced flow. Technical challenges do exist on this trail including several rocky sections. Nearly all of this trail is singletrack.

There are several places to start the 11.5 mile loop; this outlined route begins within the Council Bluff Lake Recreation Area at the Wild Boar Hollow Boat Launch, where a $3 day-use fee applies. Another trailhead worth noting begins at the Wild Boar Ridge Campground which has direct ride-in/ride-out access. Showers are available at the Chapel Hill Beach, open in the summer.

Other rides to consider in the Mark Twain National Forest include the Ozark Trail (a spur to this is located approximately 1.5 mi. in on this route), and the IMBA-Epic Berryman Trail, about an hour north.

Trail was wet in the bottoms but in great shape overall. Trail has a number of great techie sections and has little traffic to contend with today. 11.5mi
