Overview
Dead Mountain to Salmon Creek has a bit of everything Oakridge has to offer and doesn't take all day. Expect fast/buff descents, mellow river trail, thigh busting climbing, rugged creek trail...all in one ride!
Need to Know
This ride can be shuttled to top of
Dead Mountain #3566 or ride to the top from the fish hatchery for another hour's worth of climbing.
Description
From the top of the
Dead Mountain #3566 trail, drop into the newest section of trail which begins with endless rollers, small tables and bermed turns. Cross the road and hit a few more features before settling into the the fast, smooth and narrow middle section. You'll be whizzing through dense forest here.
At a junction stay right to continue the descent. Go straight across another road crossing to finish on fun and twisty trail that spills out close to the USFS Ranger Station near Salmon Creek.
Go right out to the road and then left at the ranger station parking area. Salmon Creek can be found behind the complex of buildings. Stay left to continue the ride up towards the falls.
Salmon Creek has two distinct experiences depending on what side of the river you ride. As you head up the north side, you'll be on easy going, friendly trails with no steep ups/downs or super-technical challenges.
After an out and back to the falls, you'll cross over the river.
The south side will then test your legs and bike handling with some rough and tumble climbs and moderate exposure. The ride ends by crossing back over to the north side of the river and then pedaling back into town.
