Overview

This ride uses the Metolius-Windigo Trail, Charlton Trail & Clover Meadow Trail for an awesome forested ride through some beautiful scenery.

Description

These trails were a great ride. Though I rode CW, CCW may be the better direction.....or get crazy with a figure 8.

I parked at Little Cultus lake and rode south on a slight climb past the camps to the trailhead on smooth dirt forest road.

Once on the singletrack, the trail is flowing and mostly level until you reach Clover Meadow Trail. Ride Clover Meadow up and back, with the back being fun. Rejoin the Metolius-Windigo Trail heading southwest for 5 miles to Charlton Lake. Along the way you'll ride very nice flowing terrain with occasional rocky sections.

The ride has a couple of very short advanced sections that are easily walk-able and one small meadow that holds a secret just under its soft pedaled plant life. As you rip down an enjoyable winding trail the trees open up to a small low clearing with bowling ball sized lava chunks hiding just below the greenery. It would be wise to be looking for this and slowing down. Other than that there are really no surprises, just good ol' MTBing fun.

I will ride this again next year when I return!

Attempted riding clockwise direction. Many downed trees caused me to turn back very early. Not just a few, many. Pretty much every 100-200 feet. 2mi

The Oregon Timber Trail Alliance cleared and brushes this route last weekend. It's running good now!
